Spring Styling 101 with Lucy Glade-Wright from Hunting for George

As the slow winter days have now come to an end, we can’t stop thinking about the excitement that comes along with entertaining at home in the warmer months! Recently we had a chat with interior styling guru Lucy Glade-Wright from Hunting for George, following their recent beach house renovation to find out her top styling advice and how to recreate the perfect outdoor entertaining experience at home this spring and summer.

Recreate the perfect outdoor entertaining experience using salt&pepper homewares

What are your top three styling tips, when pulling together a spring/summer outdoor tablescape?
When dining outdoors your surroundings play a big role in setting the mood for the occasion or meal. Leaning into your natural environment my top tips for elevating your guest dining experience include:

  • Incorporating a colourful or patterned napkin as an easy way to bring a place setting to life.
  • Adding clippings and greenery from the garden to freshen up your table.
  • Mix and matching different glassware and dinnerware for an eclectic look

What are your best kept DIY secrets to elevate your outdoor dining experience?
I feel it is best to keep it simple when you are outsides. Often the little details that will be remembered and adding hand drawn name cards to your table or baking a cake and displaying this as the centerpiece can go a long way. The more handmade elements that you can bring to your experience the better.

Looking forward to spring/summer 2022, what are you seeing as a must have in terms of tableware and colour scheme?
This spring/summer we’ll begin to see a lot more colour and experimenting with patterns amongst table settings. Using tablescapes as an expression of personality we are seeing homeware and décor become an essential element in the story telling of someone’s home.

Homewares and décor can play important role in separating rooms in the house. We are seeing styling focuses shift to the creation of zones and outdoor rooms as we look to create more comfortable seating and experiences for you and your guests.

You can’t have a summer/spring outdoor gathering without... ?
Lemons, a colourful jug, great food and best mates.

What are your favourite summer recipes to share at the table with family and friends?
When the sun is shining, I can’t go past an easy salad! If I am honest - anything that doesn’t take too long to pull together so I can continue to enjoy the day with my family and friends. Recipes we have on high rotation during the warmer months include:

  • Spinach, Beetroot and Goats Cheese with a sprinkle of pepitas
  • Rocket, Parmesan, Walnut and Honey Salad
